Delhi High Court rejected the petition of a youth having links with Al Qaeda. In that, the conviction of the accused under the UAPA Act by the Patiala House Court was challenged. The court of Justice Pratiba M Singh and Justice Amit Sharma said in its order that relief cannot be granted if there is primary evidence of association with a terrorist group. The court praised the order given by the trial court and said that the court has clearly interpreted the laws.

Petitioner Mohammad Abdul Rehman had challenged the order dated February 10, 2023 of the Special NIA Court of Patiala House Court. In that he was convicted under sections 18 and 20 of UAPA. The culprits were sentenced to seven years and six months in jail. The court said in its order that the trial court clearly found that four passports were found in the possession of the co-accused in the case. Apart from this he had also visited Pakistan.

All the accused were members of Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and were recruiting youth to wage war against the country. The court made it clear that relief cannot be given to convicts who secretly support or have links with declared terrorist organizations.

Bail to the accused in road rage

Tis Hazari Court has granted bail to an accused in the road rage case. During this, the court said that the arrest after the notice to appear before the investigating officer is a violation of the order of the law. The co-accused in the case caused serious injury to one eye of the victim. The matter is of Wazirabad Police Station. District Judge Neeraj Sharma granted regular bail to accused Tarun, who appeared before the investigating officer (IO) on notice and joined the investigation. Subsequently, he was arrested by the IO. The judge said, once the notice under Section 35(3) BNS is served on the applicant, the presumption is that the accused is not required to be arrested on behalf of the IO. The judge released the accused on a bail bond of Rs 20,000 and one surety of like amount.
